Want to see a concise version of the report in video form? Well you’re in luck, here’s the video.

The typical suspects are present - FCA, Nissan, and Honda since CR seems to have big issues with their infotainment and push button shifter.

My notes -

~The Dodge Journey isn’t a fair pick. That vehicle is an American treasure and should be respected. It’s so outdated that putting it on this list is almost pointless. (Sorry my former fca salesmen bias is showing)

~Since this is Oppo, I feel obligated to defend the Tacoma. I get their points, it’s not the fastest and it could be more refined, however, comparing it to a 12 year old (or more?) Frontier, I’d take the taco any day.

Thoughts?

Assuming this is the same as the list the published earlier, I kind of want to know why they hated the XE so much, but not enough to pay for a subscription or watch their video. The XE’s failure makes me sad.

From what I gathered it’s because of the bland, not really luxurious interior, cramped backseat, and bad infotainment.

Sigh. That’s why we have 3-Series that are as long as older 5-Series.

That’s a shame, since most reviewers seem to think that it’s great performance-wise.

Just watched the video

* Wrangler and tacoma consumers wont care. Business as usual.

* Odyssey consumers wont care becuase end of the day it’s a Honda and many will blindly buy it, if you watch the reviews they’re all good.

* The Jag XE still exists? Thought they would have discontinued it by now.

Shit I forgot about the Wrangler was gonna rant about that too. It’s so much better than the JK idk how you could says it’s worse in class. Their issues are what makes it a Wrangler.

Odyssey customers won’t switch to Chrysler after seeing that, I agree.

The XE should die because I think my car has a nicer interior

Same with the ATS, but we know most consumers don’t care about driving dynamics, just the badge.

The sheer number of great driving sedans that no one is buying makes it all the more painful to read FP comments that whine about new cars not being fun, or overweight and underpowered .

CR has never liked the Wrangler. Frankly it should be both the lowest and highest rated  vehicle in its class: convertible off-road-friendly SUV.

I sorta laughed at seeing the W rangler on the list. “ It’s great off-road but not so great on the road” Well duh. The people who are buying them aren’t usually going to be cross-shopping other two-row SUVs.

Ditto on the Taco. I laughed, cause they found the same things I do. It’s overpriced and pretty meh. I’d take a Frontier or Colorado over it any day. I don’t honestly know anyone with a T aco who does anything other than minivaning with it, but the rest of the competition is made of  honest little trucks.

Wrangler gets knocked for an uncomfortable and noisy ride. Of course it is, the top comes off and it’s build for off roading. So the top won’t insulate as much making it noises and the off roading will compromise on road manners. That’s just part of the deal.

As CR pivots from being almost entirely about reliability to more of a comprehensive take on vehicles, it’s weird to see some cars at the bottom of the list for shitty reliability, and some (like the Tacoma) at the bottom due to dynamics.

Exactly, it’s not really fair to say it’s noisy when a Wrangler is pretty much a convertible. You obviously have to give something up to gain that ability and like many convertibles, it’s noise.

I’m actually surprised they mentioned the ride. I’ve driven a few JL’s and they ride waaay better than previous Wranglers. Car based crossover good? No, but that’s obvious.

It is indeed. Car infotainment also has changed their reliability ratings a bunch. I agree with them that it’s important and an essential part of a modern vehicle, but they really seem to go after than more than predicted mechanical reliability which is interesting.

Yeah, I’d really like to see them break out mechanical reliability and infotainment issues as two different categories. Problems are problems, clearly, but not being able to stream your music and not being able to get to work are two very different issues.

Yeah, the newest wrangler I’ve been in was an 05 TJ that was lifted and had big tires and it rode okay. Hell the stock 94 YJ I learned stick on rode okay too and that was when it was 18 years old. I’m assuming the longer newer unlimiteds ride even better. Not like a car but good for what they are, in the same way I don’t evaluate the ride and handling of my Camry to a truck. Of course  they are different, they’re in different catagories.
